Governance

067Governors, members and trustees have a key role holding the Trust to account

Members and trustees

At the heart of YCAT are the trustees who are the custodians of YCAT’S vision, values and are responsible for planning the trust’s strategic direction.

Academy Trusts are charitable companies and must have members to hold the Trust Board to account. Our members are essential to the integrity of the governance of YCAT.

The members and trustees have a wealth of experience from public service and the wider business world and many have been recruited through the Academy Ambassador Programme.

Local Governing Bodies

In YCAT the local governing bodies have a vital role in leading their school, ensuring children receive a safe and high quality education that meets the needs of all children and their local community. The trust's scheme of delegation bestows a high level of autonomy on local governing bodies who are the important drivers in sustaining school improvement.

YCAT Governance support

Every year YCAT offers a wide range of training and support to promote effective governance within our schools and central Trust Board:

  • Termly briefings for governance professionals/clerks supporting local governing bodies
  • Termly briefings for chairs of local governing bodies
  • 'Bitesize Governance' training delivered by the National Governance Association (NGA)
  • 'Bitesize Finance' sessions to develop financial understanding of the Trust
  • 'Bitesize Curriculum Monitoring' sessions to help governors fulfil their responsibility to ensure the school delivers a rich and engaging curriculum
  • 'Bitesize Safeguarding' sessions to help promote safe environments in schools
  • HART Alliance governor updates
  • NGA membership for all governors, trustees and members
